Deadline for CAL Writers' Grants, April 15!

Every year the CAL Board allocates $1,000 in grants to help CAL members attend writing conferences and workshops. The money is divided amongst a minimum of two and a maximum of five winners. Grants are to be used to help offset the expenses of conferences, workshops, symposia, classes or other writer enrichment opportunities.
Applications are open to CAL members only. And applications are judged by a representative of The Denver Public Library Friends Foundation. Need is not a factor, nor are past works. Rather, the winners will be chosen based on how compellingly they make a case for wanting to attend a particular writers function as well as how they plan to share what they've learned with the rest of the CAL membership.
Here are the rules:
1. Applications must be typed or completed on the computer. Do NOT include your name. Attach a 3x5 card with your name, address, email address, and phone number.
2. Use the application form only. Do NOT attach additional sheets and do NOT include tear sheets or writing samples. However, do write expressively. The most successful applications tend to be those that focus on artistic development as opposed to those that articulate marketing benefits.
3. Each grant is intended as a supplement. It will not cover all your costs, so please state how much assistance you need to attend the program for which you're applying.
4. You MUST be willing to share your experience with other CAL members - in a speech, an article, or at an informal gathering.
5. Winners will be announced at the CAL Annual Banquet in May. Each winner will receive a certificate but no actual money until application is made to a particular program.
6. All grant money awarded must be used within 12 months of the banquet.
7. The deadline for applications is April 15.
